The Vovinam-Viet Vo Dao sect operates for three purposes
VN: Môn phái Vovinam (Việt võ đạo) hoạt động nhằm 3 mục đích:
About Martial Power: The sect trains its students to have a strong and stable body; a strong and resilient strength to be able to endure all difficulties and hardships, repel diseases, and keep the body always strong and healthy.
VN: Về Võ lực: Môn phái luyện tập cho môn sinh có một thân hình rắn rỏi, vững vàng; một sức lựcmạnh mẽ, dẻo dai để có thể bền bỉ chịu đựng trước mọi khó khăn, cực nhọc, đẩy lui các bệnh tật, giữ cho thân thể luôn luôn tráng kiện và lành mạnh.
About Martial Arts: The sect will train students in sophisticated techniques to effectively defend themselves and be ready to defend what is right.
VN: Về Võ thuật: Môn phái sẽ huấn luyện cho môn sinh một kỹ thuật tinh vi để tự vệ hữu hiệu và sẵn sàng bênh vực lẽ phải.
About the Martial Spirit: The sect will train its disciples to have a noble soul, an indomitable will, a generous personality, to know how to close themselves in self-discipline, to know how to live in harmony with fellow believers, know how to sacrifice in an altruistic lifestyle and become exemplary citizens, serving themselves, their families, their country, and others.
VN: Về Tinh thần Võ đạo: Môn phái sẽ rèn luyện cho môn sinh một tâm hồn cao thượng, một ý chí bất khuất, một tính tình hào hiệp, biết khép mình trong kỷ luật tự giác, biết sống hợp quần trong tình đồng đạo, biết hy sinh trong nếp sống vị tha và trở thành những công dân gương mẫu, phục vụ cho bản thân, gia đình, tổ quốc và nhân loại.

FIVE PRINCIPLES / 5 TÔN CHỈ 
To accomplish the three purposes mentioned above, the Vovinam-Viet Vo Dao sect operates according to the five principles below:
VN: Ðể thực hiện 3 mục đích nêu trên, Môn Phái Vovinam-Việt Võ Đạo hoạt động theo 5 tôn chỉ dưới đây:
1. All activities of the Vovinam sect are based on a solid foundation: Taking PEOPLE as the ultimate goal, taking MORALITY as the motto, taking TECHNIQUE and STRONG WILL as the means.
VN: Mọi hoạt động của môn phái Vovinam đều dựa trên một nền tảng vững chắc: Lấy CON NGƯỜI làm cứu cánh, lấy ÐẠO HẠNH làm phương châm, lấy KỸ THUẬT và Ý CHÍ QUẬT CƯỜNG làm phương tiện.
2. The Vovinam sect is a big family in which disciples love and respect each other. That respect and love will be create into the sect’s discipline, a solid foundation that helps the disciples unite closely to uphold the sect’s honor and serve the nation and humanity.
VN: Môn phái Vovinam là một đại gia đình, trong đó môn đồ thương yêu kính trọng lẫn nhau. Sự kính trọng và lòng thương yêu ấy sẽ đan kết thành kỷ luật của môn phái, một rường mối vững chắc giúp các môn đồ đoàn kết chặt chẽ để nêu cao danh dự môn phái, phục vụ dân tộc và nhân loại.
3. Vovinam sect actively contributes to youth education.
VN: Môn phái Vovinam tích cực góp phần vào công cuộc giáo dục thanh thiếu niên.
4. The sect’s activities are not political or religious in nature.
VN: Hoạt động của môn phái không có tính chất chính trị và tôn giáo.
5. Vovinam sect always respects other martial sects.
VN: Môn phái Vovinam luôn luôn tôn trọng các võ phái khác.
